Web 2.0 coming into your Enterprise whether you like it or not

Research, case studies, accounts from personal experience and just plain common sense after observing the facts has pretty much dictated that whether you like it or not your employees are going to bring Web 2.0 into your organisation, only without your management, meaning uncontrolled risks for your organisation.

Coming from outside your organisation people are becoming increasingly familiar with using the latest web 2.0 products and services and rely on them to keep in touch with their friends and family, keep up to date with industry news and key people, "experts" in fields of their interest.

A reasearch findings from FaceTime Communications, a "leading provider of security solutions enabling businesses to secure and control greynet applications.", posted in eWeek, found

According to the company's Second Annual Greynets Survey, 39 percent of users believe they should be allowed to "install the applications they need on their work computers," independent of IT oversight or policy, while 53 percent of users report they "tend to disregard" company policies that govern greynet usage, specifically IM and peer-to-peer file sharing....Meanwhile, the study found 80 percent of IT managers are at locations that have experienced greynet-related attacks within the last six months.

Another post by Euan Semple, puts it very succinctly in his post, "The 100% guaranteed easiest way to do Enterprise 2.0?". "This is just lovely, and so right on.", was the commented left by Tim O'Reilly.

Point made?
